annabel’s list

as i mentioned in my previous post, the first doll that i want to ‘finish’ is Annabel, my Pukifee Bonnie in NS. as she is my oldest doll, it only seems fair that i complete her look first 🙂

initially Annabel had an aqua colour scheme, but i have switched things around and now she will be primarily yellow. there are a couple of reasons for this – one is that i absolutely loooove the colour aqua on Pippin at the moment, so it will likely become her colour (again!), and the second reason (and probably more significant) has to do with Annabel’s blonde curly wig. this wig is my favourite wig on her by far, yet she wasn’t wearing it much because she was often wearing her aqua wig. however, when i sold Obelia, i started switching things around, and i realised that Annabel’s curly wig was very close in colour to the pale lemon wig that Obelia used to wear. therefore, if i made her primary colour yellow, i could put her in my favourite wig a lot of the time. win-win!

(this wig is all kinds of crazy, but I love it!)

so, with her colour scheme locked down, it was time to make a list of what she needed –

  • new eyes
  • decision on which animal she would morph into
  • some new clothes
  • some new accessories

and here is where i am up to!

  • a pair of Mako eyes have been ordered for her. i have been wanting a pair of these for so long!
  • i think that have finally decided that she will be a duckling. i have been obsessed with little yellow ducklings ever since i was a kid, so i think that is the perfect option for my favourite doll 🙂 i have some white Fairyland Littlefee wings that i plan to customise with yellow and I might try to make a little tail, too! i also found these cute duckling items on Etsy –

  • two dresses ordered
  • socks have been ordered

it feels good to have a plan!

black backgrounds.

after seeing Tea Party Revolution taking pictures on her Flickr of her dolls against a black background, i decided to give it a try with my crew. i just used an A3 sized sketchbook that i had on hand as the backdrop, and wow, does it ever make the colours pop!

i won’t use a black background all the time, but it’s certainly nice to have another option 🙂

(not so) vanilla.

being the OCD type that i am, i need things to, if not match, then ‘go’ together. and because i knew i wanted to order a tan Pukifee Bonnie during the first Fairyland tan event, i needed to order another tan Pukifee so that he wasn’t the odd man out in my collection. so, after only a tiny bit of deliberation i decided to order a tan Pukifee Vanilla, even though she hadn’t really been on my wishlist.

she was an excellent choice 🙂

my Vanilla became Obelia. i first heard the name Obelia in Australian author May Gibbs’ Gumnut Babies stories (the most famous of which is Snugglepot and Cuddlepie), and it has stuck with me ever since, and i felt it was perfect for her.

Obelia started off with a pink colour scheme (all my Pukifees have predominant colours, but more on that later 🙂 ), but once my Ante departed Obelia changed to a yellow scheme.

i think yellow suits her 🙂

impulsive.

soooo, Fairyland announced their new event… there were two new Pukifees released – and I have already ordered a fullset Cony!

i love her sweet little face, and beautiful pastel outfit. i have also upgraded to the premium eyes shown in the photographs. although i love the style of wig, i don’t like the two tone colour, so i may sell it later on. additionally, i am not a huge fan of the stockings and shoes, so i may not use them either…

with my order i qualified for the Pukifee event faceplate –

which i don’t love. at all.

it reminds me of one of the recent Littlefee Baby faceplates and just does not appeal to me. however, i may keep it and try to mod it slightly (it is calling out for the eye shape to change at least!) and it will at least give me something to practice mods and faceups on. plus, who knows? it may just be a lot cuter in real life.

is anyone else ordering from this event?

my dark boy.

the third Pukifee to join my crew (as a full-bodied doll, anyway) was my little sweetheart, Gabriel. something about the Pio sculpt really called to me, but i had concerns about the default faceup – it just looked so, so dark for a little boy.* additionally, Pio wasn’t (and still isn’t) a very popular sculpt, so owner pics were very hard to come by. regardless, i decided to take my chances and i purchased him through layaway from Denver Doll.

best. decision. ever.

Pio is such a cute sculpt! i love his chubby little chipmunk cheeks and big eyes (though i didn’t love the fact that he was sent with light blue eyes – they were waaay too light and creepy for his dark faceup). and i was pleased to really love his faceup – it wasn’t too dark at all.

i had ordered some grey eyes for him and a black wig – my aim was to try and enhance the darkness of his faceup – and it was a really cute look. he would have stayed that way except that i had bought a red wig from Rapunzel Wigs on a bit of a whim (on a side note, i really wish she would restock as she has such adorable wigs) and it looked amazing on him.

so now he switches between both wigs, simply because i think he is adorable in both!

*i know that i could have bought him blank, and sent him off for a faceup, but i was still fairly new to the hobby, and i did not know of many faceup artists – and none local – and shipping from Australia to elsewhere is very expensive, so i was trying to minimise costs by purchasing the default.
